What the work is

An accountant records all of a company’s money and business transactions: sales and purchases, payroll, taxes, assets. They check and post source documents, reconcile balances with counterparties and the bank, calculate taxes and prepare financial and tax reports. The tools are accounting software (often 1C), Excel, electronic invoices and tax-filing services.

A typical day

Checking and posting incoming invoices and completion certificates. Reconciling the bank statement with the books. Answering staff and suppliers about payments. Calculating payroll and taxes at month end. Preparing reports by the deadline and answering requests from auditors or the tax office.
